The Area Project Engineer’s main responsibilities are:
- Implement the PMC Engineering Plan for the project, project numbering conventions, databases, specific contract requirements, budget allocation, planning sessions, manpower histograms and organisation charts.
- Provide direction and leadership to the PMC Project Lead Discipline Engineers.
- Accountability and responsibility for the PMC engineering project schedule, technical accuracy of project deliverables and control of manhour budgets across engineering disciplines.
- Implement and maintain the PMC project change control procedure.
- Co-ordinate with other leaders within the PMC project organisation to ensure that multi-discipline interfaces are properly addressed with resolution of technical issues in a timely manner.
- Ensure that EPC engineering work is executed in accordance with approved work processes using standard tools that have been adopted by the EPC Contractor.
- Ensure that HSE in design is enforced (in detailed engineering by EPC Contractor) and that the design takes account of safe construction methods.
- Attend HAZOP meetings and ensure that all outcomes are appropriately closed.
- Ensure that the EPC Contractor’s applications for approvals under planning and other legislative and regulatory requirements are made and any conditions imposed are implemented.
- Monitor and oversee the EPC Contractor’s compliance with all applicable statutory obligations, relevant standards and codes of practice and all relevant statutory consents and approvals.
- Ensure that compatible information systems are used by all parties engaged on the Project.
- Understand the importance of, implement, control and resolve all aspects of interface management whether plant physical battery limits, external third party physical interfaces, Client, EPC Contractor or licensor interfaces as required for the project.
- Co-ordinate between PMC Construction, Procurement, Project Controls, etc.
Liaise with and make presentations to Client personnel, especially with regard to contract variances.
Typical background and experience required:
An experienced Senior Project Engineer with a minimum of 10 years’ experience including design office and site experience gained with an EPC Contractor.
Must have:
- Project engineering experience of PMC projects
- Project engineering experience on large EPC projects
- Must be able to demonstrate significant knowledge of European, American and International standards applicable to the oil & gas and petrochemical industries
- Ability to apply in-depth skills and broad knowledge to address complex problems and non-standard situations. Solves complex problems; takes a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions.
- Capable of explaining difficult concepts and able to persuade others to adopt a point of view. Able to motivate other team members.
- A relevant engineering degree from an accredited university

- Middle Eastern experience
