Job Summary: The Technical Engineer (Civil) will be responsible for providing technical support and expertise in various aspects of construction, with a focus on drywall systems, suspended ceilings, external facades, SIPs (Structural Insulated Panels), and related structural components. The incumbent will play a key role in proposing and consulting on installation methods, performing structural calculations, ensuring compliance with codes and standards, and managing system testing and certifications. Additionally, this role will involve overseeing product quality checks in collaboration with the QC/QA department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Support and Consultation:
- Provide technical support and consultancy on drywall systems, suspended ceilings, external facades, and SIPs.
- Develop proposals(design) and recommendations for optimal installation methods and structural solutions.
- Prepare compliance sheets and Bills of Quantities (BOQs) for construction projects.
- Perform structural calculations, including deflection and seismic assessments, in accordance with AISI (American Iron and Steel Institute) and IBC (International Building Code) standards.
- Ensure the framing system meets the required structural integrity criteria.
- System Testing and Certifications:
- Manage system testing and certification processes, including reaction to fire, Sound Transmission Class (STC), Ceiling Attenuation Class (CAC), and other relevant assessments.
- Collaborate with third-party laboratories (e.g., Intertek, Thomas Bell Wright, UL) to conduct testing in accordance with international standards (ASTM, BS EN, etc.).
- Oversee product quality checks, both internally and externally, in cooperation with the Quality Control/Quality Assurance (QC/QA) department.
- Conduct physical specifications testing and ensure compliance with environmental standards such as LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), EPD (Environmental Product Declarations), HPD (Health Product Declaration), and VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) limits.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field.
- At least 3 years experience in technical engineering roles related to construction, preferably with expertise in drywall systems, suspended ceilings, and facades.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office tools.
- Experience with design and drafting software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM (Building Information Modeling).
- Familiarity with structural calculation software like Etabs, SAP, and CFS.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
- Knowledge of relevant codes and standards, including AISI and IBC.
- Experience in managing testing and certification processes is a plus.
