Job Title: Civil Site Engineer – Substation
Location: Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Company Introduction:
We are a leading EPC contracting company in Saudi Arabia, specializing in the construction of high-voltage (HV) and extra-high-voltage (EHV) substations, overhead transmission lines (OHTL), power plants, water treatment plants, water pipelines, and industrial plant projects. To support our growing portfolio, we are seeking a skilled Civil Site Engineer to oversee substation construction activities, ensuring compliance with design, safety, and quality standards.
Position Overview:
The Civil Site Engineer – Substation Construction will be responsible for the supervision and execution of civil works related to substation projects, ensuring adherence to design specifications, project schedules, and safety regulations. This role requires strong technical expertise in substation foundation works, structural installations, and coordination with electrical and mechanical teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Civil Construction & Site Supervision:
- Oversee excavation, foundation, concrete, steel structures, roads, fencing, and finishing works for substations.
- Supervise the construction of transformer foundations, control rooms, cable trenches, and underground utilities.
- Ensure civil construction activities align with SEC (Saudi Electricity Company) standards and project specifications.
- Monitor earthworks, backfilling, and compaction activities to ensure compliance with quality standards.
Coordination with Other Disciplines:
- Work closely with electrical, mechanical, and commissioning teams to ensure smooth integration of civil structures with electrical equipment.
- Coordinate with subcontractors and ensure alignment with project requirements.
- Assist in resolving conflicts between civil, electrical, and mechanical installations.
Quality Assurance & Compliance:
- Conduct inspections and quality checks for concrete strength, soil compaction, and reinforcement installations.
- Ensure compliance with SEC, IEC, and international construction codes (BS, ACI, ASTM, etc.).
- Prepare and maintain as-built documentation for all civil construction activities.
Safety & Risk Management:
- Implement HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) standards in all construction activities.
- Conduct risk assessments and safety audits to ensure adherence to workplace safety regulations.
- Ensure site workers comply with safety protocols, including PPE, scaffolding safety, and excavation safety measures.
Project Execution & Progress Monitoring:
- Track construction progress and ensure work is completed as per the approved schedule and budget.
- Identify and address delays, bottlenecks, or deviations from the construction plan.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports for project managers and stakeholders.
Problem-Solving & Technical Support:
- Identify and resolve technical issues in substation civil works to prevent project delays.
- Provide engineering support to site teams for problem resolution and construction optimization.
- Assist in reviewing and modifying civil designs to accommodate on-site conditions.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of site activities, material usage, and quality test results.
- Prepare and submit method statements, work permits, and site inspection reports.
- Ensure proper documentation for SEC approvals and final project handover.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in substation construction or infrastructure projects.
- Experience with 132kV, 220kV, or 380kV substations is highly preferred.
- Key Skills:
- Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, substation foundation works, and construction methodologies.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, STAAD Pro, and Primavera P6/MS Project.
- Familiarity with SEC (Saudi Electricity Company) regulations and local construction codes.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
- Problem-solving skills to address site challenges and optimize construction processes.
- Preferred Certifications:
- SEC approval/certification is a strong advantage.
- PMP or Construction Management Certification is a plus.
