Job Title: Traffic Engineering Consultancy – Hajj Pilgrimage
About the Role:
We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Traffic Engineering Consultant to provide expert guidance and support in ensuring the safe and efficient movement of millions of pilgrims during the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Makkah. This consultancy role demands a unique blend of technical expertise, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to work under immense pressure in a dynamic and challenging environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Traffic Planning & Management:
Conduct comprehensive traffic assessments and develop customized traffic management plans for specific areas or routes within the Hajj pilgrimage sites (Makkah, Mina, Arafat, Muzdalifah).
Analyze traffic flow patterns, identify potential bottlenecks and congestion points, and propose innovative mitigation strategies.
Design and recommend temporary traffic control measures, including road closures, diversions, lane restrictions, and signal timing adjustments.
Assist in the development and implementation of emergency traffic management plans and protocols.
Safety & Security:
Assess and mitigate safety risks associated with pedestrian and vehicular traffic within designated areas.
Develop and recommend measures to enhance pedestrian safety, including the design of safe walkways and crossings.
Conduct site inspections and provide on-site guidance during the Hajj season to ensure the effective implementation of traffic management plans.
Technology & Innovation:
Explore and recommend the utilization of innovative traffic management technologies, such as Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), to improve efficiency and safety.
Advise on the use of data analytics and visualization tools to monitor traffic flow and identify areas for improvement.
Stakeholder Coordination:
Collaborate with relevant stakeholders, including government agencies, transportation authorities, and local officials, to ensure the successful implementation of traffic management plans.
Communicate effectively with stakeholders and provide clear and concise technical advice and recommendations.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Transportation Engineering.
Master’s degree in Transportation Engineering or a related field preferred.
10+ years of professional experience in traffic engineering, with a strong preference for experience in large-scale events or high-density urban environments.
Proven track record of successful traffic engineering consultancy projects.
In-depth understanding of traffic flow theory, traffic modeling software (e.g., Synchro, HCS, VISSIM), and ITS technologies.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Ability to work independently, under pressure, and adapt to rapidly changing situations.
Fluency in Arabic is highly desirable.
Strong cultural awareness and sensitivity.
